Ann M. Williams
Candidate – State Representative, 11th District

Ann Williams is an Independent Democrat running for State Representative of the 11th District on Chicago’s North Side. The district includes the Chicago neighborhoods of West Lakeview, Roscoe Village and North Center, as well as parts of Lincoln Park and Lincoln Square. In February, Ann won the primary election, and is now the Democratic nominee for the seat in the November general election. As State Representative, Ann will focus on fiscal responsibility, property tax relief and job creation, and will work to protect our environment and improve education in Illinois. Ann will put her years of experience in both the public and private sectors to work on behalf of the people of the 11th District if elected in November.

As an Assistant Attorney General with Lisa Madigan’s office for 5 years, Ann was responsible for helping craft and implement key parts of the Attorney General’s public interest agenda, including protecting women and children from sex offenders, preventing consumer fraud, and creating openness and accountability in our government. Prior to serving as an Assistant Attorney General, Ann was a staff attorney for the Illinois House of Representatives working with legislators from all over the state, helping to advance legislation to meet the needs of working families on issues such as increasing access to affordable healthcare, improving educational opportunities, enhancing public safety, caring for senior citizens, and protecting our environment.

After serving the public as an Assistant Attorney General, Ann continued her advocacy in the private sector, serving as a liaison between state government and business for Wyeth, a pharmaceutical and consumer products company. Ann has always been committed to serving the community. While completing her studies in law school, Ann clerked at the Legal Assistance Foundation, Women’s Law Project. Ann was among the first recipients of the Public Interest Scholarship at Drake University Law School. After graduating from law school, Ann was a volunteer attorney at Pro Bono Advocates, helping victims of domestic violence obtain orders of protection. Ann currently serves on the board of the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence and was formerly on the board of Personal PAC, an advocacy organization committed to protecting a woman’s right to choose.

Ann, an attorney, lives in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood.
